A child cannot learn in a stressful environment and conversely, a brain that isn't stressed, learns best. We want to provide an environment that meets the needs of every child so that cognition (thinking about thinking) can occur.

At The Play Lab Foundation, we strive to improve the lives of underprivileged children by providing them with education, food, and shelter. Our aim is to break the cycle of poverty and give these children a chance at a better future.

To live is to learn, and play is learning, so it makes sense that when children play they act out the way that they live. It is all interconnected and children have an innate desire to understand what it means and how they fit into it. 

In order for them to do this it is essential for children to have long stretches of uninterrupted play so they can learn at their own pace, in a way that creates security, pleasure, and connection.Our team is made up of dedicated individuals who are passionate about making a difference in the world. From our volunteers to our board members, everyone at The Play Lab is committed to our mission and the children we serve.

At the Play Lab, our Practitioners understand that the same children that have experienced trauma- directly or passed down through generations- and does not feel safe in recreational spaces deserves to run safely and freely outdoors. We understand that the child who does not feel safe in their body deserves to feel the grounding sensation of the earth gently resting against their toes. Our Practitioners believe that nature isn't for some, it is for every child and we start exposing the children in our care to learning they can touch, taste, and feel. Learning that has sound & color. The more engaged the bodily senses are, the deeper the brain connections form. This is the type of education that taps into a child’s natural learning style, creating meaningful experiences. And when we are talking about cognitive development, experiences matter. 

Quality Care is meeting the basic needs of every child and then some. It is  Emotional safety and security, it is satisfaction obtained through joy/well-being, and it is trusting connections made through healthy, positive relationships with their caregivers. Children require these components  in order to excel this vast and ever-changing landscape. 

Children don't need  compliance, coercion, and obedience stamped into them, our children need joy, innovation, movement, and a place to belong. And they will find that and more at the Play Lab NFP.
